Born far from the corridors of American healthcare, Mashiyat Rashid arrived with nothing but ambition and a belief that hard work could bridge any gap.
After graduating from Detroit public schools and earning his degree from the University of Michigan Business School in 2002, Mashiyat joined one of the world’s largest international consulting firms for ISO certifications and training before opening his own consulting firm, which quickly thrived.
The trajectory was steep and swift — physical therapy clinics and multi-specialty medical centers scaling across Michigan, with pain management eventually becoming a sub-specialty that would later contribute to his downfall.
Then the opioid crisis arrived, and with it federal scrutiny that would unravel everything. Indicted in 2017 on Medicare fraud charges connected to high-volume nerve blocks and referral practices, Mashiyat entered a guilty plea in 2018. What followed was 8½ years of incarceration — and a transformation shaped through consequence, accountability, and reflection.

The Indictment
As the opioid crisis reshaped federal enforcement priorities, practices operating within aggressive reimbursement environments came under intense scrutiny. A federal Medicare fraud indictment connected to high-volume nerve blocks and referral-based growth ended Mashiyat’s business life and forced a reckoning with the realities of compliance, operational pressure, and ambition.
The experience would ultimately become the foundation for the Sentinel philosophy, Vigilant AI, and the 987 framework.
A New Purpose
